The Magic of the Music began with a simple question. Filmmaker Jennifer Szabo asked pianist Mike Jones what it means to swing in straight-ahead jazz. Jones has spent a lifetime swinging as hard as anyone at the keys, yet he couldn't put it into words.

So instead of defining it, the film sets out to show it. From the recording studio to the bandstand, it follows Jones and the musicians he plays with as their knowledge, their passion, and their natural feel for the music come together in amazing music improvised in the moment, right in front of your eyes.

Part masterclass, part detective story, it's a film for anyone who has ever felt music work on them without knowing why. Completed and seeking distribution, with release planned for 2026–2027.
